What can Reiki do for you? Reiki can help you to feel more balanced, less stressed out, and more relaxed. Reiki might also give you more energy and help you to feel more creative and connected to the world. Reiki treatments could help you relax and heal old injuries. Reiki could help lessen pain and improve your range of movement. Reiki has also been used in the treatment of sleep disorders. And — Reiki has been used as an alternative therapy to treat those with weakened immune systems. In general, treatments could improve your overall sense of well-being.
One study out of the University of Maine evaluated the effect of Reiki as an alternative and complementary approach to treating older adults who experience pain, depression, and/or anxiety. Participants were randomly assigned to either a Reiki treatment group or a wait list control group. The researchers found that the Reiki group had improved physical symptoms, mood, and well-being. The Reiki participants were also more curious and showed a stronger desire to learn more and to engage in self-care.
You can use Reiki treatments along with other conventional treatments that you are taking. Don’t discontinue any medications without your doctor’s advice. Reiki complements most other treatments quite well and will not interfere with these treatments.
What is Reiki exactly? It’s a form of energy therapy that originated in Japan. Reiki practitioners hold their hands on or slightly above specific points on your body and send energy to the places that need healing.
Keep in mind that a Reiki practitioner should not prescribe you any medication or diagnose medical problems. A code of ethics and the law do not allow them to do this. So make sure you use Reiki as an alternative cure in addition to the regular care you get from your primary healthcare provider.
In the meantime, you can make use of the five precepts of Reiki to center and balance yourself. Here they are:
1. Just for today, I will not anger.
2. Just for today, I will not worry.
3. Just for today, I will be grateful.
4. Just for today, I will work hard on myself.
5. Just for today, I will be kind to others.
