And the kicker? You could see results in as little as 10 days!

Effects of Cutting Sugar Out of Your Diet

All you have to do is cut back on sugar, and I found a study today that explains it all, and might provide a little more motivation for you to kick sugar to the curb sooner rather than later.

The research comes from the renowned anti-sugar advocate Dr. Robert Lustig and his team at the University of California, San Francisco. And if he’s at the helm, you can count on it being some good quality research.

His team found that by cutting sugar, you can experience dramatic health improvements in as little as 10 days. And the numbers are really impressive; it just shows how bad sugar really is, and how removing it even for a brief time can have substantial health benefits. And the longer it’s avoided, the benefits will likely become more pronounced.

In 10 days, Lustig and his team found that subjects’ triglyceride levels had dropped by 33 points, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol had dropped by five points, and so did diastolic blood pressure—the lower number that measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats, when the heart is refilling with blood.

Diabetes risk was also chopped in just 10 days, as subjects’ blood sugar and insulin returned to normal, healthy levels. Think about that: the risk for diabetes was virtually eliminated in just over a week!

Now, it should be noted that the 43 subjects used in Lustig’s research were children, but that doesn’t mean that these results wouldn’t translate to adults. The children in the study were obese and suffered from metabolic syndrome.

This shows that the benefits of diet start almost immediately. And although you might think a diet takes six, 12, or 16 weeks to bring on noticeable change, the truth is that your metabolism and organs respond and experience benefits as soon as you start making healthier nutritional choices.

How to Stop Sugar Cravings

But what do you do about that sweet tooth? Well, there are a couple of options. The first is to eat more fruits and veggies. Red apples and Bosc pears, for example, are about as sweet as it gets—Jazz, Gala and Fuji apples, especially. Carrots are also very sweet. Another option is to plan your sweet indulgences. Make them a treat, only to be enjoyed once a week; but keep them in control. Don’t eat a family-sized bag of candy—instead, get the single-serving size offered at your local variety store.
