Do you suffer from tiredness and feelings of fatigue? Part of the problem may be that you’re not getting enough sleep. Or you may have a chronic illness that makes you tired because of the burden of dealing with daily symptoms. This is a common complaint when the body is trying to adapt to and fight off a disease. It’s going to need extra energy to fight back and unfortunately it takes this energy from your daily stores.
Sometimes this sets off a sort of vicious circle. Once you are depleted of energy, you don’t feel like exercising. But if you don’t exercise, you’re pretty much guaranteed to feel sluggish most of the time. You feel awful when you feel sluggish, and on goes the cycle.
The trick here is to boost your energy levels so that, even if you are not feeling 100%, you can still get some exercise and participate in some activity that is stimulating for you. And that means both mentally and physically stimulating. Nothing is more depressing than feeling as if you are too tired to concentrate and too tired to move.
One of the ways you can try to boost your energy enough to be able to get involved in an activity (which in turn may give you another little boost) is to try supplementing with ginseng. Ginseng has been used in China as a treatment for insomnia. Ginseng is officially approved in Russia as a commercial drink to improve endurance.
Part of what makes ginseng a powerful energy tonic is that it is what’s known as an adaptogen herb. Adaptogen herbs are herbs that help you to adapt to any form of stress, whether it’s physical, emotional or mental. And adaptogen herbs, unlike modern pharmaceuticals, work by normalizing the functions of your body. Pharmaceuticals usually stimulate or suppress functions in the body in order to temporarily suspend symptoms.
The next time you’re feeling a little under the weather and fatigued, try taking a ginseng tonic. It might be just what the doctor ordered.
