A colon cleanse is considered a natural, safe method of removing toxins and accumulated wastes from your intestines. There are many colon cleanse products that you can buy from stores selling natural health products — but why not make your own?
Colon cleanse kits usually contain some or all of the following: herbs, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and psyllium. Herbs are needed to kill harmful bacteria and parasites and to stimulate the liver, gallbladder and intestines. Digestive enzymes are needed to replenish low levels from a poor diet and/or accumulated toxins.
If you want to start your own colon cleansing program, here are some suggestions to help you out. Try to eat only raw foods for two weeks. That means lots of raw vegetables and fruits. Stick to the non-citrus fruits like bananas, apples, berries, grapes, and pears if you can. After the two weeks have passed, try to maintain a diet that is 50% raw foods. Drink 10 glasses of water a day for the two-week period. The water will keep toxins and solid wastes moving out of your body and re-hydrate the rest of you.
There are certain foods you need to avoid when doing a colon cleanse. Saturated fats, sugar, and processed foods are a no-no. These will interfere with the cleansing process. Replace saturated fats with small amounts of olive and canola oils. Avoid dairy products, too, during your colon cleanse. Dairy products create mucus in the colon that interferes with toxin removal.
Recipe For a Colon Cleanse
Here’s a recipe to make your own drink that could help to remove toxins and accumulated wastes from your colon. You could get relief from acne, Candida, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, depression, irritability, and even allergic reactions. Here’s what you need to do:
Mix together:
- 1 tablespoon of bentonite (a clay mineral)
- 1 teaspoon of psyllium seed
- 1/2 cup of apple juice
- 1/2 cup of aloe vera juice
- 1/2 cup of steamed distilled water
Drink this mixture once daily until the colon is clean and symptoms lessen in severity or disappear. (Note that there have been no long-term studies done regarding the effects of bentonite in people’s bodies. Make sure you drink plenty of water when using this ingredient, as it can cause constipation or intestinal blockage. If you’re elderly, are already constipated, or are taking any medication, check with your doctor before using bentonite.)
First thing in the morning and just before bed, drink fresh lemon juice squeezed into a cup of warm water. This could help cleanse your bloodstream and detoxify and neutralize your system. Try to take a brisk walk each morning. After your walk, drink fresh carrot and apple juice, or green vegetable drinks. Liquids move faster through your system than solid food and could help accelerate the detoxification process.
