Lump on the BackYou’ve got a lump on the back, neck, arms or upper thighs—so what do you do? First things first: don’t panic. Chances are you don’t have anything to worry about, especially if the lump is comprised of soft, fatty tissue.

What Are Lipomas?

Lipomas are the most common form of soft-tissue growth. And the good news is they’re noncancerous.

However, be sure to visit your doctor to get your lump checked out btefore you write it off as a harmless lipoma.

The most common places you’ll find a lipoma are your torso, neck, upper thighs, upper arms, and armpits. These benign lumps can occur pretty much anywhere on the body, and show up more than one at a time.

Lipomas typically range from less than half an inch to one and a half inches in diameter. And they have a moveable and soft, rubbery consistency that can be felt just beneath the skin. They often stay the same size for years, or grow at an extremely slow rate.

These lumps are pretty innocuous. And often only cause discomfort if they grow and begin to press on nearby nerves, or contain too many blood vessels. Typically, the worst part about lipomas is merely their unsightliness.

The official cause of lipomas is unknown, but they tend to be more common in individuals from 40 to 60 years of age. And in those whose family members have developed lipomas in the past. Contrary to what many may think, being overweight doesn’t increase your chances of developing a lump of this nature.

Most doctors will leave your lipoma untreated since they don’t pose a health risk.

Natural Remedies for Lipomas

If you feel you need your lump on the back to be gone, lipomas can be removed surgically with a simple procedure, or by liposuction. But, if there’s no valid medical reason for you to take the surgical route, why not try the natural route instead?

There’s a wide array of oils and herbs you can try to help treat your lipoma, including neem oil, flaxseed oil, and green tea.

Neem oil is a powerful natural astringent that can be used to protect your skin. It is commonly used in ancient Indian practices to treat lipomas.

If your lump is inflamed, the omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids from flaxseed can help soothe any irritation.

Using a cooled green tea bag as a compress can help regulate blood sugar and fatty tissue, also making it an effective treatment for lipomas.

Another potential way to help get rid of the fatty deposit under your skin is to apply a mixture of honey and flour to the affected area. To be honest, I’m a little skeptical about this one myself, but there’s no harm in it, so why not give it a try? Create a thick paste using the two ingredients and spread it on your lipoma, using a bandage to keep it in place.

After it’s been on for 24 to 36 hours, rinse it off with warm water. Do this for a week or two, and see if it helps!
