heavy headAre you one of many people who suffer from chronic headaches and migraines? Does your head feel heavy? If so, I don’t have to tell you that this kind of pain can be completely incapacitating.

It can often prevent you from completing your daily routine, making it difficult to lead a normal life. While some people seek medical intervention, others are never diagnosed, and thus left to their own devices.

Luckily, there may be relief for your heavy head in the form of simple, natural remedies. And I’m going to share a few of them with you.

But first, let’s talk about what causes these disruptive headaches.

Heavy Head Causes and Related Symptoms

Heaviness in your head can be caused by a number of things, from anxiety, to depression, to fatigue, and more. When your head is aching and feels heavy, you may also experience associated symptoms, including trouble concentrating, light-headedness, dizziness, tightness, or even numbness.

Experiencing heaviness in your head can be debilitating, especially when you don’t know how to treat it. Which brings us to the many natural remedies you can use to help ease your discomfort. However, their effectiveness is largely dependent on the cause behind your heavy head.

Once you’ve visited your doctor and determined the source of your headaches, try one of these natural methods to relieve the pain.

Natural Remedies for a Heavy Head

1. Meditation

If your headaches are induced by increased levels of stress or anxiety, try meditation. It can lower inflammation, strengthen regions of your brain, relieve heaviness, and help with your overall stress and anxiety. If meditation doesn’t work for you, search for ways to first solve your feelings of anxiety. Once you take care of that, your headaches will likely ease up.

2. Turmeric

Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory food that can help with a variety of ailments, including headaches. You can take turmeric as a supplement, add it to foods as a spice, or use it as an additive for tea to aid your headaches.

3. Fiber

Did you know that pressure in your stomach can lead to pressure in your head, resulting in a heavy head feeling? If your headaches are accompanied by constipation, you may want to think about adding more fiber to your diet. Relieving the pressure in your digestive system could help reduce the heaviness you feel in your head.

National Headache and Migraine Awareness Month

June is National Headache and Migraine Awareness Month, according to the National Headache Foundation. The foundation focuses on advocacy, awareness, education, and research. And over the past 46 years, they’ve raised awareness around the world about neurobiological diseases and continue to do research for new treatment options.

With the clinical innovation and advances in technology, they’ve made great strides—but there’s still a lot of work to be done. Show your support this month by sporting a purple ribbon. And help raise awareness for those who suffer from chronic headache and migraine conditions.

Don’t Ignore Chronic Headaches

Chronic headaches can derail your routine and disrupt your everyday life. Always be sure to visit your doctor and get checked out if you experience heaviness in your head, to rule out any serious underlying conditions.

While over-the-counter painkillers and prescription medication can help ease your discomfort, you can also seek relief using natural ingredients, like turmeric.
