Hearing loss is an all-too-common problem for those who are aging. Most treatments that can help with hearing loss involve the use of an adaptive device. Hearing aids and amplifiers on telephones are two common adaptive devices.

But now a new study suggests that antioxidants also play a role in the treatment of hearing loss.

Conducted by researchers at the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences, Vanderbilt University, TN, the study examined the associations between total nutrient intakes and auditory function outcomes in an older human population.

Descriptive characteristics and dietary data from food frequency questionnaires were collected in a cross-sectional study design and analyzed for associations with auditory function outcomes. A total of 2,111 adults were recruited for the study, ranging in age from 49 to 99 years.
